intu Metrocentre, Europe’s largest retail and leisure destination, has announced two new appointments to its marketing team.
Amy Bruce and Emma Hart have joined the company as marketing coordinators responsible for the creation, organisation and management of events in the centre.
Amy, 23, from Heworth, Gateshead, graduated in 2015 from The University of Sunderland with a First Class BA Hons degree in Magazine Journalism.
After graduation Amy spent three months at Newcastle NE1 as a marketing and events assistant followed by twenty months at South Tyneside Council as the marketing and communications intern, working on projects such as The Word, National Centre for the Written Word.
Amy said: “I’ve always been drawn to the retail industry after working for brands including House Of Fraser and Primark while I was at University but discovered a passion for marketing after completing a three month internship with Newcastle NE1.
“I’m thrilled about my new role as marketing coordinator at intu Metrocentre and feel like it’s a brilliant place to begin my career. It looks like 2018 is going to be a very exciting year for the centre and I’m privileged to be part of that.”
At the weekend Amy can be found at the cinema as she’s a huge fan of superhero films or driving around the north east in her brand new mint green Fiat – her pride and joy after passing her driving test late last year. She also loves travel and is currently enjoying planning a two week holiday to America, taking in New Orleans, San Francisco and New York.
Emma, 21, from Dinnington, Newcastle, studied Business Studies, Psychology and Biology at Gosforth High School before joining intu Metrocentre as a marketing apprentice in 2015, helping the team with events, campaigns and digital marketing.
Emma has flourished in the role where she has been involved with large in-centre events, video shoots and digital campaigns for the intu group. She also won the title of Business Services Apprentice of the Year at Gateshead College’s Edge Awards which celebrate the best apprenticeship training programmes in the north east.
Emma is passionate about charity work and helping the local community – last year, with a team from intu Metrocentre, she climbed Ben Nevis to raise funds for Hadrian’s School, ran the Great North Run for St Oswald’s Hospice, painted rooms at Gateshead Carers and held several in-centre events for Sunshine Fund’s Go Bananas Month.
Emma commented: “I’m delighted to have been promoted to marketing coordinator and I’m really looking forward to gaining new qualifications this year to progress my career within marketing and events.”
When Emma isn’t hard at work she is a regular at her local gym and has a dedicated fitness regime including weight training and running. She’s also passionate about travelling and has her first trip to New York planned for later this year.
Helen Atkinson, marketing manager at intu Metrocentre, added:
“We’re so pleased to welcome Amy and Emma to the marketing team. Amy has a wealth of knowledge about the retail sector and her passion for marketing really shines through her work. She is also a great team player and is already using her event planning expertise to organise social gatherings for the team.
“Emma’s promotion to marketing coordinator is well deserved – over the last couple of years Emma has proven to be a creative and enthusiastic member of our department who rises to any challenge.
“Marketing is a fast-paced environment and both Emma and Amy’s quick-thinking, strong interpersonal skills and positivity are perfectly suited to the role and setting.”
