Planned roadworks in the North East: summary for Monday 20 to Sunday 26 June 2016

a1 largeThe following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 17 June but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar

There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. On Monday 20 August the carriageway will be closed northbound between junction 50 and Scotch Corner and southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 51. From Tuesday 21 to Friday 24 June there will be a carriageway closure southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 51. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by summer 2017.

A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead

Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. From Monday 20 to Friday 24 June there will be a carriageway closure northbound between junctions 67 and 71, and southbound between junctions 73 and 67. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by early summer 2016. A1M junction 60 to 61, County Durham

There will then be a contraflow in place north and southbound every night between 8pm and 6am with daytime 50mph speed restriction and hard shoulder running for structural maintenance. This will take place until mid August.

A194M Follingsby Interchange, Gateshead

There will be a lane closure north and southbound for construction work. This will take place until Monday 20 June between 8.30am and 4.30pm.

A1 Morpeth, Northumberland

There will be work ongoing until Spring 2017 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place. There will also be a 24 hour lane closure in place north and southbound until the project is completed.

A1 Westmoor to Newton on the Moor, Northumberland

There will be a 24 hour contraflow in place north and southbound for resurfacing work. This will take place until mid July.

A1 Beal, Northumberland

There will be traffic signals in place north and southbound for investigation work. This will take place until Wednesday 22 June between 8pm and 6am.

A19 Killingworth to Moor Farm, North Tyneside

There will be a northbound carriageway closure for resurfacing work, taking place from Monday 20 to Wednesday 22 June. Then from Thursday 23 to Thursday 30 June the carriageway will be closed southbound. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am with a diversion in place.

A66 Preston Farm Interchange, Stockton on Tees

There will be a closure of the east and westbound exit slip road with a 30mph speed restriction to facilitate a cycling event. This will take place on Thursday 23 June between 9am and 9pm, with diversions in place.

A66 Hutton Magna to Scotch Corner, North Yorkshire

There will be various phases of lane closures east and westbound for inspection work. This will take place from Monday 20 June between 9am and 4pm.

A66 Ravensworth, North Yorkshire

There will be traffic signals in operation east and westbound for maintenance work. This will take place from Monday 20 to Friday 24 June between 8pm and 6am.

A69 Aglionby

There will be a reduced speed limit between Friday 24 and Tuesday 28 June and overnight closures on the A69 between 7pm and 7am on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 June for five nights for resurfacing work.
