Homes in North Tyneside are becoming warmer and residents wealthier, thanks to a successful heating partnership worth millions of pounds.
North Tyneside Council’s partnership with Warm Zone has reached another impressive milestone, with the value of its work to help households topping the £3m mark.
Over the last two years, Warm Zone has helped over 700 households reduce their fuel bills by improving central heating systems, installing cavity wall and loft insulation, and bigger projects such as external wall insulation.
And the partnership has also supported residents to apply for £1m in additional benefits, such as pension credits or attendance allowance, which they were previously missing out on.
Welcoming the news, Cllr John Stirling, cabinet member for Environment, said: “The council is committed to tackling fuel poverty and reducing the borough’s carbon footprint, and our partnership with Warm Zone is one very successful way of doing so.
“I am absolutely delighted that the value of work installed through the partnership, energy savings made for residents and additional benefits secured has reached £3m – what a fantastic achievement.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage other residents to contact Warm Zone and see if they qualify for full or partial grants for heating improvements; it can save households hundreds of pounds per year.”
Warm Zone, a not-for-profit company, secured national funding to enable full or partial grants to be awarded to residents for the installation of central heating, cavity wall and loft insulation or improvements, and solid wall insulation.
Warm Zone has been working in the North East for over 12 years and only uses trusted, local installers, who carry identification cards.
