North Tyneside Council has received positive recognition following recent Ofsted inspections.

All of the borough’s domestic and non-domestic childcare settings, which includes childminders, playgroups, day care nurseries and out of school clubs, have been rated as either ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’.

North Tyneside Council’s ‘Ready for School’ improvement team works with settings to maintain high standards, supporting and challenging them to improve their provision.

They complete statutory framework checks, lead training and network meetings, keep settings up to date with national and local priorities and offer bespoke support to individual settings.

This news comes on the back of North Tyneside Council’s own Ofsted result in June, where the authority’s ability to safeguard children was given an overall rating of ‘good’, with ‘outstanding’ features.

Celebrating the news, Cllr Ian Grayson, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Learning, said: “We work incredibly hard to make sure that everyone in North Tyneside has the very best childcare available to them.

“These ratings are a testament to the fantastic services that we provide for these young children to get them ready for school, work and life.”

Domestic and non-domestic childcare settings are inspected through a rigorous Ofsted framework with four judgements:

  • Effectiveness of leadership and management
  • Quality of teaching, learning and assessment
  • Personal development, behaviour and welfare
  • Outcomes for children

Inspectors have been impressed with the dedication and knowledge shown by practitioners in settings, drawing particular attention to the extremely strong partnership with parents and the engagement, enthusiasm and commitment in children’s play.

They were also impressed by children’s confidence in meeting their self-care needs from a remarkably early age, as they help to prepare snacks, pour their own drinks and serve themselves at lunchtime.

Ofsted is the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. They inspect and regulate services that care for children and young people, and services providing education and skills for learners of all ages.
