Teesside Gas Processing Plant, near Seal Sands, has again received a coveted Order of Distinction – following over two decades of exemplary health and safety performance.
Securing a prestigious Gold Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for the 23rd year in succession, Stockton headquartered px – which manages, maintains and operates the gas processing facility – collected the award at a prestigious ceremony in Glasgow.
The RoSPA Awards scheme, which receives entries from organisations from across the world, recognises achievement in health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.
Responsible for managing and maintaining power stations, gas processing plants and fuel storage depots right across the UK, px also achieved three further Gold Awards for its performance in 2019 – as well as two Gold Medals for sites which have operated to a gold standard for a number of consecutive years.
Fellside Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Station, adjacent to Sellafield, in Cumbria, received its eighth consecutive Gold Award – also securing its fourth Gold Medal, awarded to sites with between five and nine years of continued success.
There was also a Gold Award and Gold Medal for px Group, for five years of exceptional safety performance at sites including: Saltend Chemicals Park, near Hull, East Yorkshire; the gas fired Stallingborough CHP Plant, near Immingham, North Lincolnshire; the Port Talbot Biomass Power Plant in South Wales; Beckton Energy Combined Heat and intelligent Power (CHiP) Plant, in East London and the company’s headquarters and offices in Stockton-on-Tees.
Finally, a third Gold Award in three years for the St. Fergus Gas Processing Terminal, north of Aberdeen – one of the country’s largest natural gas processing plants – capped another year in which a RoSPA gold standard was achieved across the board for px.

The Teesside Gas Processing Plant (TGPP) is located at Seal Sands, just north of the River Tees. It consists of two gas processing trains with a combined processing capacity of 675 million cubic feet of gas per day.
The plant, which became operational in 1993, is owned by North Sea Midstream Partners. It is a top tier COMAH installation with px the named duty holder – responsible for the operations, management and maintenance of the site since 2002.
