It’s evident the people of Newcastle have a sweet tooth this year as the local Asda store in Byker reports the highest ever pre-packaged pancake sales in the days running up to Pancake Day.
The store, situated in Newcastle Business Park, has seen sales of pre-packaged pancakes sharply incline year on year as pancake flippers in Newcastle favour the fluffy, American style pancakes that are more difficult to replicate at home.
Much to the store’s surprise, the sudden change in customer preference has resulted in an incredible 300% increase YOY with hungry customers clearing instore shelves, leading to the store manager increasing the volume of American style pancakes available as Shrove Tuesday fast approaches.
Rob Wilkinson, Store Manager at Asda Byker, said: “Clearly Pancake Day is as popular as ever and there is a huge amount of excitement for the celebrations!
“The trend for fluffy American trend has taken Newcastle by storm this year and customers love the thick and fluffy style pancakes we sell instore more than ever before.
“Due to the huge spike in sales and demand, we’ve made sure we have ordered more ingredients and the team here has ensured our tasty pre-packaged pancakes are fully stocked ahead of the last minute rush!”
