Traditional not Digital! To encourage people into the centre of town, old-fashioned Santa letter writing for children at Fantasy Prints in Berwick-upon-Tweed.
One of the North of England’s leading print and design companies is to open a dedicated Santa’s Post Office, intended to bring some real Christmas magic to the very heart of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Fantasy Prints has transformed their West Street shop into a magical grotto where children can come and write their letters to Santa Claus.
Being opened by Santa himself on Saturday 23rd November, and available until close of business on Wednesday 18th December 2019, this service is guaranteed to bring back some good old-fashioned festive tradition and spirit to the town. The children will be transported to a bygone era, where Santa Claus was shrouded in mystery, and they will be invited to complete their Christmas wish list.
Sarah McMorn, Managing Director at Fantasy Prints explained where the idea for the service came from: “There are two main reasons we have introduced this service. Firstly, with so much digitisation for instant gratification these days, we wanted to revisit and provide one of the wonderful traditions of Christmas again. Children often write letters to Santa through school, but rarely do they get an acknowledgement back from Santa. Nothing quite beats getting a letter through the post, and even better from the great man himself! So, we believe this is something very special.
“Secondly and very importantly we want to encourage people to come into the centre of the town and to shop local this Christmas. Berwick has some excellent shops, many independently owned and operated, and hopefully this will give families a further reason to come into the town centre and support them.”
To set the scene, families who visit Fantasy Prints shop – instead of finding the usual space – will be transported to a festive wonderland. There, children can write their letter to Santa and post it in a magical post box so that it goes straight to the North Pole. And even though Santa is an incredibly busy man at this time of year, each child is guaranteed to get a letter back from the North Pole! Their personalised letter from Santa Claus will include a postcard telling the story of Santa’s reindeers, a bedroom door hanger reminding ‘Santa to stop here’, and of course Santa’s check list.
“Because of this, we wanted to create a special experience and go back to good old-fashioned traditions. A real connection with Santa, rather than an online interaction!
Local businesses are welcoming the service to the town centre and William from Cocoature the Chocolate shop next to Fantasy Prints explained why:
“This will be a wonderful activity to do with children before Christmas. As a shop owner, I encourage anything that brings extra footfall into the town and what better way than to add a bit of extra Christmas sparkle for families with this fabulous letter writing service. Christmas has become very commercial so it will be lovely to direct visitors over to West Street to enjoy a traditional and magical experience.”
One person who could well be inundated as a result of this is Santa Claus himself, who is certainly at his busiest at this time. He was keen to assure children that their letters were in safe hands:
“I am speaking to all the good children of Berwick and the surrounding area. I have enlisted extra elves to ensure that I am able to respond to all your wonderful letters in time for Christmas. I encourage you to pop into Berwick and take the time to write me a letter. I love to receive them and look forward to sending a letter back in time for Christmas. Don’t forget to be extra good so that you don’t get put on my naughty list!”
This service for children will be available from the Fantasy Prints retail shop in West Street, until close of business on Wednesday 18th December 2019, to allow Santa enough time to respond. Purely to cover costs this is priced at £4.99.
