A youth football team has benefited from a new playing strip and equipment thanks to sponsorship from Story Homes, which has a new development in Sedgefield – St Edmund’s Manor.

The award-winning housebuilder has committed to supporting Sedgefield Youth Football Club’s Under 13s team for the 2017/18 season, and as a result the club has been able to purchase new kit for the 18 young players as well as footballs, water bottles and a Football Association course to train one of the club’s coaches.

The team plays competitive league games on weekends and trains twice a week, with other non-league registered children invited to participate in the training sessions. Sedgefield Youth F.C. is keen to encourage all local children to join these sessions to help them build friendships and improve their fitness.

David Ryder, who manages the team, said: “We are really grateful for the sponsorship from Story Homes. It has allowed us to buy a high quality new strip and much-needed training equipment. The children love their new kit – it has already brought them luck as they won their first tournament playing in it.”

Ian Worgan, Managing Director for Story Homes in the North East, commented: “We are pleased to be supporting this local team of young players and it is great to see their enthusiasm and pride in their new kit. Helping charities and community groups that neighbour our developments is extremely important to us and it is fantastic to hear how our support can make a difference.

“We particularly enjoy helping groups like Sedgefield Youth F.C. that have strong community values and aim to involve as many local children as possible, helping them to develop vital life skills such as teamwork and discipline.”

Following its launch in May, the first homes have been released for sale at St Edmund’s Manor, which is based just off Stockton Road in Sedgefield. The development features three, four and five-bedroom detached and semi-detached homes, all finished to a high specification internally and externally.

Throughout its 30-year history, Story Homes has supported communities in the areas surrounding its developments through its company-wide ‘Future Story’ scheme. Applications are reviewed quarterly and requests can be submitted at storyhomes.co.uk/sustainable-story.
