NORTH EAST family confectionary firm Sweetdreams is helping to encourage more women in the region into sport as it teams up with the Durham Cricket Board Ladies team.
The Choc Nibbles manufacturer, which has been unveiled as the first corporate sponsor of the side, is aiming to raise the profile of women’s sport and the importance of nurturing local home-grown talent.
Matthew Stephenson, managing director of Sweetdreams, said: “As existing sponsors of local grassroots rugby and football teams, we’re proud to now be involved with Durham’s ladies team and helping raise their profile.
“This new deal is a natural progression in our sponsorship strategy for grassroots sports. For women’s sport to make progress, commercial investment is needed and we believe it is important to increase the visibility of women’s sport and empowering more females to become involved in sports at all levels.”
Established 15 years ago, Durham now play in Division Two of the National Senior Women’s County Championship and have enjoyed a strong start to the 2015 season.
Tom Seymour, sales director at Durham County Cricket Club, added: “Our senior women’s team are going from strength to strength and with a strong pipeline of promising talent coming through our youth system, it’s wonderful to have the backing of local businesses such as Sweetdreams to keep that momentum going.”
Sweetdreams is the manufacturer of the quirky chocolate treats, Choc Nibbles, which evoke nostalgic school day memories of eating quarters of chocolate from paper bags. The family-run company manufactures its high quality chocolate products in a range of flavours using premium ingredients.
