Social enterprise Sport Works has announced that Mike Boswell has joined their team to further develop the growing business across the North East and nationally.
Mike has been brought in as business development director to help broaden their scope from delivery of sport based education and training programmes.
Mike will head up the government backed Traineeship and Apprenticeship division of Sport Works.
Neil Cameron, managing director at Sport Works, said: “We’re looking forward to Mike helping us build on the success we’ve achieved so far; reinforcing our position as a trusted partner to local authorities and schools throughout the North East and through our expanding franchise network across the UK.
“We’re really keen to develop the traineeship and apprenticeship by targeting the sport and leisure industry and have every confidence that Mike is the right
person to guide us through this transition.
“Our mission is to improve outcomes for young people, both educationally and helping them towards the jobs market, and traineeships and apprenticeships are a great way to do this. In helping young people achieve qualifications they may not have otherwise had access to, we can develop their confidence as well as giving them the skills they need to start their career.”
Mike has over 23 years of experience in external engagement, marketing and account management, with a background in business development. He has proven himself with high profile clients in the financial, retail and public sectors, where he wrote and implemented multi-million pound strategies for thousands of apprentices, and developed multi qualification solutions.
Most recently, Mike has gained extensive experience in the education sector, with a proven track record as a member of the senior leadership team for learndirect, where he was instrumental in developing the strategy, design, development, implementation and budgets on a number of external key accounts.
Sport Works has been engaging with youths of all abilities through sport since 2009, and has recently experienced a period of rapid growth, expanding from their Newcastle base to operate a national franchise network across 11 sites.
The North East remains central to the business, with the Sport Works team successfully delivering a Sport Traineeship contract for 65 young people in the region and developing a standalone apprenticeship programme.
Mike comments: “Sport Works has presented a unique opportunity for me to apply my knowledge and experience in the education sector to a worthwhile cause.
“They have already experienced success in their growth so far and I’m looking forward to helping Sport Works to develop their own Apprenticeship strategy,
allowing them to continue the good work that they’re doing already.” If you are an employer in the sport and leisure industry interested in delivering apprenticeships or traineeships, or a young person looking for a career in sport, contact Sport Works on 0191 5800 120 or visit:
