Now in its third year, the continually growing, Pavel Cup, a charity football match in honour of former Newcastle United goalkeeper, Pavel Srnicek, will take place at the UTS Stadium in Dunston.

It is an occasion which brings together former Newcastle United players, celebrities, families, and friends, to raise funds for the St Oswald’s Hospice, a charity in which Pavel had been announced as an ambassador for shortly before his untimely passing in December 2015.

This year’s event is no different and for Siobhan Sargeant and the St Oswald’s team, it’s an opportunity to aid in raising much-needed funds for their beloved charity.

Mrs Sargeant, Business Partnerships Manager of St Oswald’s said of the upcoming event: “We are thrilled to be part of the Pavel Cup this year, it’s such an incredible event and it really brings the community together.

“Each year this event grows and raises more money for the Hospice and this year will be no different.

“This year’s Pavel Cup will be even bigger and better than ever before, with even more activities on the day ensuring fun for the whole family!

“We are looking forward to welcoming our friends from Riverside Falconry back for the second year and with coverage from Radio Tyneside even more people will be able to enjoy the event.

“We are especially grateful to Steve Wraith, Newcastle Legends and everyone at Dunston UTS for putting on the event and for choosing to support St Oswald’s Hospice through the Pavel Cup, it’s a really fun yet poignant event which is a big hit with families from throughout our region.”

St Oswald’s Hospice provides specialist care for North East adults, young people and children with incurable conditions.

They aim to raise over £7.5 million each year through voluntary giving and legacies to continue to provide the services offered and no charge is made to patients for that which is provided, ensuring expert, dignified and compassionate care is available to all.

Organiser Steve Wraith added: “I’m delighted to be celebrating Pavel’s life and raising money for St. Oswald’s Hospice again.

“I would like to thank all the former players and celebrities for giving up time from their busy schedules to play and we’re all looking forward to what promises to be great day.”

The Pavel Cup III, which takes place at the UTS Stadium, Dunston, on Sunday 8 July, will see a Newcastle Legends XI led by Steve Harper and will include former Magpies Steve Howey, Darren Peacock, Keith Gillespie, Olivier Bernard, Peter Ramage, Jamie McClen, Stewart Elliot, Billy Askew, Matty Pattinson and Paul Robinson; whilst a Celebrity XI managed by Steve Wraith will see the likes of Les Langley, Danny Posthill, Anthony Hutton, Kenny Dick and Simon Donald lace up the boots…

Don’t worry though, the Celebrities do have some footballing talent as well with non-league legends Andrew Bulford, Paul Thompson, David Southern and Steven Preen also appearing.

The event, which takes place on Sunday 8 July (gates at 12 noon), sees tickets available fromwww.newcastlelegends.com priced £8 adults and £4 children, proceeds going to St. Oswald’s where further information can be seen via www.stoswaldsuk.org.
