An eleven-strong team of Year 8 and 9 Stokesley School students demonstrated exceptional leadership skills when they were instrumental in the smooth running of a primary sports event hosted at their school. The young leaders and Lindsey Asher, Stokesley School Sports’ Co-ordinator, welcomed Foundation Stage Students from local primary schools to come and have a go at a range of multi-skills – the building blocks of PE.
The four and five year olds ran, jumped, hopped, balanced, skipped, crawled, threw, rolled and, most importantly, smiled their way around the sports hall as the students guided groups through a carousel of nine different activities.
Comments Lindsey Asher, Stokesley School Sports Co-ordinator: “It is always a great pleasure to welcome the youngest of our local primary children to multi-skills events and see how much they get out of the activities. Our young leaders engage so well with the children and it’s wonderful to watch them growing in confidence. They are a real credit to the school and their parents. We look forward to seeing what they can achieve in the future on their journey through PE at school.”
The Foundation Stage students are always a delight when they visit Stokesley School, something staff and students have come to expect from the smallest members of their cluster. They came prepared with their determination, passion, respect and self-belief. It is very rewarding for the young leaders to hand out Fair Play Awards to children demonstrating all of these important school games values. However, without exception, everyone was fantastic on the day and after a few nervous moments at the start they all gave everything their very best, whether it was something new to them or an activity they had done before.
This is just one of a number of events that the school offer to primary schools in the Stokesley area, with a number of other activities, including a netball tournament, hockey festival and Change-4-Life Festival, taking place this term.
