Hambleton residents wanting to improve their health can now refer themselves onto a district council run scheme for free.
The ‘Take That Step’ lifestyle referral service which has been running for three years aims to improve health conditions including obesity, respiratory, heart disease, muscular disorders, risk of falls and long term conditions such as asthma, arthritis and osteoporosis.
Previously residents had to be referred by their GP or other health care professional but can now refer themselves.
The 12 week structured weight management programme features the 1-2-1 support of qualified Health and Wellbeing Professionals.
The service is open to any Hambleton resident who is 18 or over and to be eligible for free support must have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of between 25 -40.
To check your BMI follow the instructions at http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/loseweight/Pages/BodyMassIndex.aspx
