Taxi firm backs Sunderland Restaurant Week

SUNDERLAND’S biggest taxi firm is offering the opportunity for wheels after meals, with a discount for diners enjoying the city’s second Restaurant Week.

City centre-based Station Taxis has got behind the initiative, organised by Sunderland’s Business Improvement District, by branding up some of their cars to help promote the week, along with coming up with a discount scheme.

Throughout the week – which runs from 11 – 19 March –  diners who eat at participating restaurants can collect a voucher which will entitle them to £1 off the cost of their taxi ride.

In addition, the firm will be doing its bit to promote the initiative by installing information cards on the back of headrests of many of its fleet of 200 vehicles, as well as adding special branding to the side of six of its cars.

Natalie Bland, marketing manager at Station Taxis explained how the firm was keen to get on board following the success of the inaugural event last year.

“As a local company we always want to support other businesses in and around the city because we are passionate about promoting it and keeping people in Sunderland,” she said.

“Sunderland Restaurant Week is a brilliant initiative because it brings to light so many great restaurants. I think many people don’t actually realise the diverse selection of eateries we have here, and this helps to put them in the spotlight and hopefully encourage business.

“Not only are we offering £1 off a journey to people visiting some of the restaurants taking part, but we’re doing our bit to spread the word. We love our city and are all proud of the selection of restaurants here and want to do whatever we can to support these businesses.”

Gemma Dishman, Marketing and Communications Manager at Sunderland BID, is delighted to welcome Station Taxis on board.

“The response we had to our first Restaurant Week was incredible, and already it looks like the second one will be equally if not even more popular,” she said.

“To have the support of Station Taxis is brilliant, particularly given the vast number of people who use their cars and so will become instantly aware of Restaurant Week.

“The discount voucher is an even bigger incentive to take advantage of the amazing offers we have to try out the city’s busy restaurant scene and we’re hoping it will also encourage people to spend longer in Sunderland and visit our many fantastic bars too.”

The second Sunderland Restaurant Week follows a successful inaugural event last September.

Dozens of restaurants have signed up to take part, including new arrivals The Coffin Club, Papa’s Tapas, The Dead Rabbit, Royale Thai, The Chop House at The Dun Cow and Grand Didyma.

These will join old favourites such as Asiana Fusion, The Funky Indian, D’Acqua and Angelo’s Ristorante, where diners can use downloadable vouchers to enjoy two and three-course menus for £10 and £15.

The £1 off voucher will be available to collect in participating restaurants only, subject to availability and will be useable from 11-19 March 2017 only.
