Longbenton Air Cadets have again won silver at the Durham/Northumberland Wing Air Cadets Athletics Championships!
The youngsters, aged 12 – 19, competed across five age categories, with their Junior Men team winning gold. The Under 15 Boys and Under 17 Men teams both finished fourth with the Under 15 Girls and Junior Women finishing in sixth and fifth place respectably. Overall, Team LB won silver on the track and field at Monkton Stadium, Jarrow, winning an impressive medal haul of 18 medals.
Team Captain, Cadet Sergeant James Douglas, 17, said; “We really enjoy taking part and competing in sports. It’s good fun to put into practice the skills we learn in other activities, like leadership and drill, so that we do our best as individuals so the team can collectively achieve.
“To have won silver for the second year running is a great achievement, although next year we hope to take gold!”
Squadron Officer Commanding, Flight Lieutenant Gary Richardson said; “I am tremendously proud of our young competitors, who showed determination, ambition and spirit to enjoy winning silver.”
Six young people from the Longbenton Squadron will now represent the Wing at next month’s Regional Championships.
