The new Giulia and Stelvio are making their debuts. These two award-winning models have won over the international community thanks both to the brand’s trademark driving dynamics and the timeless design which makes any Alfa Romeo vehicle a moving work of art. The distinct Alfa Romeo take on the beauty of Italian design has been made even more seductive and contemporary on both models with stylistic interventions being made on their fronts to create a clear and strong family resemblance with the Tonale. The new Giulia and Stelvio will be available in Q1 2023.
A new look
The fronts of the new Giulia and Stelvio have been given a new look. The front and lower grilles of the two main air ducts have been given a unique finish to reinterpret the famous and distinct Trilobo grille in a contemporary style.
The headlights are the main new feature on the front. The 3+3 lights make their debut on both models with new Full-LED Adaptive Matrix headlights. This creates both a strong family resemblance with the Tonale and recalls one of the brand’s famous features, which was introduced by the iconic Alfa Romeo SZ Zagato and the Alfa Romeo Proteo concept car. The three modules make up the unique frontline of the new Giulia and Stelvio and ensure the best lighting conditions, thanks to the introduction of newsophisticated technologies:
- Adaptive Front Lighting System constantly adjusts the dipped beam headlights based on the speed and driving conditions
- Glare-Free High Beam Segmented Technology in poor lighting conditions automatically detects both directions of traffic to avoid blinding the other cars
- Welcome and Goodbye device turns on every time the driver closes or opens the car
All of this means more efficiency—in terms of duration and energy savings—and greater safety due to less stress on the eyes and increased driving comfort. The layout of the group of rear LED tail lights, which provide the perfect combination of style and technology, have also been made over to accentuate the sporty souls of both models. The new Stelvio features new clear lens tail lamps, while those on the new Giulia come with a smoked lens with a glossy black finish.
The new, completely digital instrument panel
The new Giulia and Stelvio are equipped with the most cutting-edge technology to ensure a comfortable and connected experience, while simultaneously providing the trademark pleasure of driving an Alfa Romeo. The most significant update can be seen in the instrument panel with its historic ‘telescopic’ design. It includes the new, completely digital 12.3-inch TFT screen, where all the vehicle information and parameters related to the autonomous driving technologies can be accessed. The cluster can be configured into three layouts: Evolved, Relax and Heritage:
- Evolved represents the future of Alfa Romeo design and uses the central area of the screen, despite keeping its two lateral quadrants in place
- Relax focuses on comfort, is free of detailed vehicle information and is without the two quadrants
- Heritage is inspired by the brand’s iconic Sixties’ and Seventies’ models, with distinctive details like inverted numbers at the end of the speedometer
NFT Technology and Alfa Connect Services
The new Giulia and Stelvio are equipped with a fluid and intuitive Human Machine Interface (HMI) to keep all the functionalities at hand. The infotainment system pairs with the optional Alfa Connect Services to offer features including over-the-air updates and My Remote to control some of the vehicle’s functionalities (locking/unlocking of doors, flashing lights) via a smartphone/smartwatch.
Non-Fungible-Token (NFT) technology is available on the new Giulia and Stelvio. a world exclusive in the automotive field which began on the Tonale and will be available on the entire lineup. The technology is based on the concept of the blockchain card, an encrypted and non-modifiable digital register where the main information on each car gets recorded. Based on the customer’s selection, the NFT generates a certificate where data on the vehicle’s life gets recorded. This certificate can be used to guarantee proper vehicle preservation and support its residual value. The NFT certificate provides a further source of credibility which helps the owner or reseller, but also reassures the buyer in the choice of a used vehicle.
Best in segment driving dynamics
The driving dynamics of the new Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio are once again best-in-class in their respective segments. They provide a visceral driving experience with authentic Alfa Romeo spirit, providing an optimal balance between Italian design, state-of-the-art engines, perfect weight distribution, technological solutions and an excellent power/weight ratio. The essence of current and past Alfa Romeo models comes from this formula which, since the Tonale, has been evolving to reach a new level of efficient and high-performing sportiness.
Lightness and agility: the sporty dynamic behavior of the Giulia and Stelvio is supported by the wide use of ultra-light materials like aluminium, used at the base of the engines, and carbon, used for the drive shaft, which has been taken directly from the world of racing.
All-wheel drive with Q4 technology: designed to manage the traction of the Stelvio in a reactive and predictive way to ensure the highest levels of performance, efficiency, and safety. The Q4 technology guarantees all the benefits of all-wheel drive and, simultaneously, guarantees reduced fuel usage, reactivity and the pleasure of driving a rear-wheel drive vehicle. At the heart of the Q4 system is the Active Transfer Case (ATC) which monitors grip conditions and driver inputs in real time to ensure optimum performance.
The Alfa Romeo Q4 system allows the Stelvio to send all the power to the rear wheels. If tyre grip is approaching its traction limit, or if requested by the driver, it can instantly deliver up to 50 per cent of the engine torque to the front wheels in less than 150ms, preventing wheel slip and ensuring maximum vehicle performance and driving effectiveness.
Q2 mechanical self-locking differential: On the Stelvio Veloce it is possible to integrate the Q4 all-wheel drive with the Q2 mechanical self-locking differential, which is also available on the rear-wheel drive Giulia. The limited slip-differential enhances agility and sportiness, guaranteeing perfect traction for greater vehicle stability in corners at high speed, during high-speed acceleration and in wet or slippery conditions by keeping the wheels constantly in check and reducing slippage.
Alfa Link suspension: On the front, a double wishbone with a semi-virtual steering axis – an Alfa Romeo exclusive – to optimise the filtering effect and allow quick and precise steering for uncompromised handling. On the rear, a multilink solution with four and a half arms – an Alfa Romeo patent – that provides enhanced handling combined with excellent comfort. Alfa™ Active Suspension with an electronically controlled damping system, which adapts to driving conditions instant by instant enabling the driver to opt for more performance-biased or comfort-oriented handling, features exclusively on the Competizione special series.
Integrated Braking System (IBS): the electromechanical system which combines stability control with the braking system, guaranteeing an instantaneous response of the brakes, limiting the stopping distance, and allowing for significant weight optimisation.
Contributing to the stellar driving dynamics of the Giulia and Stelvio, is the extremely direct steering which has been paired with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission with aluminium shift paddles, guaranteeing unparalleled handling in curves.
For the perfect balance between driving pleasure and assistance systems, the new Giulia and Stelvio offer a complete set of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) for level-two driving autonomy. This means the driver can let the vehicle control the accelerator, brake and steering wheel in certain conditions via electronic systems which require the driver to constant monitoring them. These systems support the driver and offer greater comfort during long journeys.
A simple and intuitive lineup strategy
The new Giulia and Stelvio follow the strategy introduced with Tonale to makes the customer’s configuration of the vehicle as simple as possible. A choice of two trim levels are available, Sprint and Veloce, which each have distinctive characteristics to satisfy the most demanding customers. The Sprint trim is the entry model for a unique Alfa Romeo experience, while the Veloce further enhances the performance and sportiness of the cars. Giulia range will be available with the rear-wheel drive 280hp petrol engine, while the Stelvio will come with the choice of the all-wheel-drive 280hp petrol or 210hp diesel engines.
The Competizione special series, the ultimate expression of performance and style, certified NFT
To celebrate the debut of the new Giulia and Stelvio, Alfa Romeo is introducing the Competizione special series. Based on the Veloce trim and available with every engine, the launch edition sits at the top of the range and features the exclusive Moon Light grey matt colour and red brake calipers. The intense sporty look of the new Stelvio has been accentuated with 21-inch alloy wheels. The interior adds the Harman/Kardon audio system and leather-upholstered dashboard and seats with red stitching. Privacy glass and the Competizione badge on the sides and front headrests complete the look. On the Competizione, the exclusive Alfa Active Suspension and NFT technology comes as standard, which certifies the uniqueness of each Competizione car, and verifies its original configuration.
