Screen Shot 2015-06-09 at 14.26.22Almost 13,000 tenants have signed up to a new agreement following the transfer of ownership of their home.

Officers from Dale & Valley Homes, Durham City Homes and East Durham Homes, who collectively make up County Durham Housing Group, have signed up around 75% of customers overall to their new Tenancy Agreement since April’s housing transfer from Durham County Council.

With more than 18,000 households to contact overall, the local landlords are making sure that there are different opportunities for tenants to sign-up through door-knocking, prearranged home visits and a series of drop-in sessions across the county.

Liz Bradley, Dale & Valley Homes Neighbourhood Services Team Leader, said: “Following the transfer tenants’ new agreement is with one of the landlords of County Durham Housing Group.”

Carol Crathorne, Durham City Homes Estates and Tenancy Manager, continued: “Whether during a home visit or at a drop-in event, we are also reminding tenants that their rights have been protected, and a new right not to have any changes to the Tenancy Agreement implemented without their approval introduced.”

“Whether during a home visit or at one of our drop-ins, we will also use the opportunity inform customers of the benefits they can now look forward to as part of County Durham Housing Group, including around 700 new homes being built over the next seven years,” said Julie Dower, Tenancy Support Manager from East Durham Homes.

Tenants can find out more about the sign-up process from their local landlord:

  • Dale & Valley Homes: 0800 083 0333 or 0300 2000 194
  • Durham City Homes: 0800 068 0013
  • East Durham Homes: 0800 032 0835 or 0191 518 5497.

Officers and operatives working on behalf of all three landlords will always show their ID cards when visiting homes, and tenants are reminded not to allow access to their property to anyone without proper documentation.
