When you get there, you’ll want to make sure you have a Wi-Fi hotspot so you don’t rack up the data on your phone. You’ll need it as soon as possible to make calls, check Google Maps, and pull up any reservations or confirmations you had.

- Brush up on Japanese
Lastly, you should make sure that you brush up on Japanese.
While it’s a hard language to learn, even learning some of the basics can help you out. Most people won’t be able to speak English, and all of the transportation and maps are only in Japanese.
