Staff and Learners from TTE took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge and raised a total of £4,000 for Middlesbrough and Stockton MIND.
The group, made up of ten staff and 24 learners, completed the 24 mile hike within 12 hours for its chosen annual charity. The local charity provides confidential services for people who are experiencing mental health problems.
TTE Technical Training Group is the leading provider of training to the process, manufacturing and engineering sectors, which are historically male-dominated industries. As a result, the fundraisers for this challenge were hoping to raise awareness of men’s mental health issues in particular.
Earlier this year, TTE coordinated a bake sale for the mental health charity which sparked the idea of completing the National Three Peaks. The training provider also strengthened its charity efforts with its annual football tournament, which raised money for the Leven DFC’s girls under 12’s football team’s new kit.
In preparation for the event, the volunteers visited well-known local walking routes such as the James Cook monument and Roseberry Topping.
Rory McIntosh, Curriculum Improvement Coordinator at TTE and organiser, said “Acknowledging mental health is very important. We decided to pick Middlesbrough and Stockton MIND as our annual charity because mental health issues don’t discriminate and anyone can be affected. It is vital that we educate our students on what mental health is, and what help is out there if they need it.”
Bethany Dean, Communications Officer at Middlesbrough and Stockton MIND, said, “We are honoured to be picked as TTE Technical Training Group’s charity of the year and it is inspiring to hear about the organisation raising awareness of mental health to their colleagues and students”.
