– Severe Spring Season Stops One in Three londoners from Doing Daily Tasks
– Over a Third of Londoners (36%) Avoid Going Outside During Peak Hay Fever Season
– Airtasker Allergy Air-vengers Help Hay Fever Sufferers Tackle Seasonal Chores

London, UK – 08 May 2025: As the pollen count rises, so does the list of abandoned chores across Manchester. With allergy season in full swing and a severe ‘red warning’ looming for hay fever sufferers in the UK*, new research from local service marketplace Airtasker unveiled 1 in 3 Londoners (34%) say their symptoms interfere with everyday tasks, and 36% admit to staying indoors to avoid the sickness.

The marketplace commissioned the research to UK hay fever sufferers, which revealed the extent of how hay fever is derailing daily life across the country. London sufferers are losing an average of four and a half hours a week (close to 20 hours a month) sneezing and sniffling. Everyday tasks are taking a serious hit, with 36% avoiding leaving the house during peak hay fever season, 14% avoiding general DIY and 11% even forced to skip walking the dog.

To support those Brits who are struggling with getting their daily tasks done due to seasonal allergies, Airtasker has launched the ‘Allergy Air-vengers’, a nationwide initiative focused on providing help to those who are hit hard by allergy season.

The marketplace offers skilled Taskers ready to tackle just about anything, whether it’s tidying up your home, sprucing up the garden, walking the dog, clearing rubbish, or handling those lingering DIY jobs. To launch the ‘Allergy Air-vengers’ campaign, a dedicated team of Taskers is hitting the streets of London this week. Armed with tissues, they’re spreading the word that no matter the task, help is always just a click away.

The initiative was idealised after a Tasker; Ryan Edwards was on his way to an Airtasker job and had an unexpected encounter. Commuting through London he crossed paths with a man who he thought was footballing legend David Beckham, visibly struggling with hay fever symptoms. Without hesitation, Ryan offered the stranger a tissue, an act of kindness that caused quite a stir with the public. Ryan’s spontaneous gesture caught the attention of local Londoners and the Airtasker platform alike.  (pics available)

Airtasker has seen a surge in hay fever related posts, with people requesting Takers to help with allergy restricting tasks like doing the laundry, clearing the garden of ‘allergy triggering flowers’, mowing the lawns, and taking the dog for a walk.

Tim Fung, Founder and CEO of Airtasker says, ‘With allergy season in full swing, day to day life tasks can become difficult for those suffering with hay fever causing huge discomfort. By connecting local Taskers with those who need help, it’s possible to take some of the burden off allergy sufferers, allowing them to rest and recover while Taskers can earn extra income’.
