Alpamare Scarborough, the fastest, biggest, most fun-filled waterpark the UK has ever seen will open its doors, slides and pools to the public for the very first time on Saturday 30 July.
Like nothing ever seen before in this country, the world class attraction boasts exclusively designed, adrenaline inducing waterslides, which are the UK’s longest and fastest, giant indoor wave pool that erupts every 30 minutes with metre high waves, outdoor garden pool and indulgent iodine infinity pool with massage jets, whirlpools and bubble benches – both heated to 35°, vibrant AquaPlay™ area for younger children with more than 35 interactive features including spray jets, tipping cones, water guns, a dual slide and a giant overhead tipping bucket for hours of water-filled fun, terrace overlooking Scarborough’s spectacular coastline and beautifully landscaped gardens with sunbeds, pool bar and restaurant.
The alpine themed, innovative and thrilling waterpark, which has been developed overlooking Scarborough’s stunning North Bay on the Yorkshire coast, represents an investment of £14 million and will play a key role in the strategy to retain Scarborough’s status as the second most visited town in England after London.
The waterpark’s four water rides on a par with those found at premier water parks in Dubai and Florida, offer up to 2,500 rides per hour. The slides, all different, are up to 120 metres long and cater for four-person inflatables, double inflatables and racing mats. 35,000 litres of water per minute will be pumped through the slides, which have been built to optimise fun, to ensure a thrilling ride experience. All the slides have been named based on an alpine skiing theme and have been constructed by internationally renowned water slide manufacturer and water park planner, ProSlide.
The ‘Black Run’ is the steepest and fastest slide with a drop of 11 metres for guaranteed thrills. The ‘Cresta Run’ is based on the world famous Cresta run in St Moritz, which sees riders propelled down the equivalent of a black ski run, head first, on a racing mat. At more than 116 metres long, the family friendly ‘Olympic Run’ will be the longest of the four slides for a guaranteed fun filled shared ride on a double inflatable. Signature ride ‘Snow storm’ will be a must for an adrenalin fuelled group experience. Pumping 20,900 litres of water per minute, four person inflatables will hurtle riders down more than 14 metres of twists and turns.
Dr Anton Hoefter, Alpamare Chief Executive Officer said:
“After years in the planning and many months in construction, I am absolutely delighted that in two days’ time we will be ready to welcome the very first fun seeking customers to our world class, state of the art waterpark. We couldn’t think of a better location to be launching our first ever UK attraction and we are very confident that it will play a key role in boosting Scarborough’s visitor economy all year round.”
Cllr Derek Bastiman, Leader of Scarborough Borough Council said:
“This is the most exciting thing we have seen open in Scarborough in recent years. We have been working extremely hard over a long period of time to secure this development and the addition of this amazing unique attraction will help cement the Borough as being the Queen of the Coast”.
Sir Gary Verity Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire said:
“Scarborough is in the middle of a huge renaissance with massive investment in the harbour, Scarborough Spa, Open Air Theatre and hotels. The opening of the £14 million Alpamare waterpark in Scarborough will be another terrific asset for the town which is now the second most visited holiday destination outside of London.’’
Following within months of opening will be a luxury European-style Wellness Spa, set to open in early 2017. It will be the ultimate relaxation experience, extending across 900 square metres. It will feature an outstanding range of steam and sauna baths, with luxury treatments dedicated to health and wellbeing, in both Turkish and Alpine style spas.
