Residents are being asked for their views on plans for a number of new housing developments in Bishop Auckland during February.
The events, being led by County Durham Housing Group, are linked to proposals that could see 200 new homes built in Woodhouse Close. The homes would include a variety of different property types, available for both affordable rent and sale on the open market.
Three drop-in sessions will take place at Auckland Youth and Community Centre on Tuesday, 13 February from noon to 2pm, and 4pm to 6pm; with a further session on Thursday, 15 February between 2pm and 4pm.
The group, in partnership with Durham County Council, has secured funding from the Department for Communities and Local Government to develop plans for the proposed new homes, as well as other improvements in the area that will benefit existing residents.
As well as having initial estate plans for local residents to consider, County Durham Housing Group officers will also be on hand to provide advice and guidance on issues such as Universal Credit, rent, training, volunteering and support in returning to work.
Bishop Auckland and Shildon Area Action Partnership will also attend to discuss priorities in the Woodhouse Close area.
County Durham Housing Group Head of Development and Commercial Property, Kate Abson, said: “Before investing in any community it’s so important that we talk to local people about how we can meet their needs for housing and offer new opportunities for families.
“We’ve secured funding to make this work possible, but these drop-in events will help us shape our ideas for the area further and give residents the chance to influence what any possible development could look like.”
Woodhouse Close is also one of County Durham Housing Group’s priority areas for 2017/18, which means that extra support and funding is being provided to assist local residents with training, education and employability.
