Businesses across Darlington town centre have joined together to launch #LoveDarlo, a social media campaign to shout about the best of what the town has to offer.

Retailers, leisure operators and restaurant and bar owners – from across the national and independent sectors – are working in partnership with Darlington Borough Council on the initiative.

The #LoveDarlo Facebook and Instagram pages will be an independent voice for the town centre, sharing the latest news, offers and events.

There will also be #LoveDarlo exclusive offers and competitions

Among the businesses backing #LoveDarlo are the Cornmill and Queen Street Shopping Centres, House of Fraser, Feethams Darlington, including Vue Cinema, Marks and Spencer, the markets operator Market Asset Management, Darlington Building Society, Boyes and Mercure Kings Head Hotel.

Independent retailers lending their support include The Keys, Origins Home and Origins Coffee Bar, and TGi Media.

Susan Young, centre manager at the Cornmill Shopping Centre, says: “Being at the heart of Darlington’s community, we love to support initiatives like #LoveDarlo which sees local businesses and organisations come together and celebrate our town.

“Many of our retailers are also taking part to help spread positive messages for Darlington and ensure the ongoing success of the town.”

Laura McTaggart, sales manager at Mercure Darlington Kings Head hotel, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the #LoveDarlo campaign.

“Darlington is a beautiful historic town with a great spirit and by working closely with the town centre businesses we hope to really showcase our offering to both the local community and wider region.”

Councillor Chris McEwan, cabinet member for economy and regeneration, said: “It’s great to see so many businesses from across the town centre coming together to support each other and work together on an initiative like this.

“It can be difficult sometimes for a retailer or business owner, particularly independents, to get their voice heard and let people know what they have to offer. We hope #LoveDarlo will help get the message out about some of the great work being done by businesses in Darlington.”
