Community groups in West Rainton have been getting a sneak peek at a new residential development in their village ahead of the opening of its show homes this weekend.
Housebuilder Banks Homes invited members of the local groups it has supported through grant funding this year to take a look at the show homes at its Cathedral Meadows development on Station Road
Representatives of the West Rainton & Leamside Village Partnership, St Mary’s Church and Durham Area Youth were invited to attend the preview, along with teachers from the nearby West Rainton Primary School, whose pupils have designed safety posters that are now being displayed at the site.
Banks Homes is building 150 high specification new homes at the Cathedral Meadows development, with two five-bedroomed show homes opening their doors to the public for the first time at 10am on Saturday (14th December).
Kate Culverhouse, community relations managers at the Banks Group, says: “Delivering tangible benefits to the places in which we’re working is a central part of how we operate and we’ve been able to support some excellent community projects in West Rainton over the last year.
“We wanted to show these groups what all our work in their village has led to and we’re very pleased to have been able to welcome so many of them along to get a sneak peek at our beautiful new show homes.”
Geoff Kitson, who lives opposite the main entrance to the Cathedral Meadows site with his wife Sheila, says: “We’ve been impressed by the way that Banks have gone about their work through the year and have managed things like traffic flow and health and safety around the site.
“Having seen lots of different plans for this area over the years, we’ve been pleasantly surprised by how open the development feels and how well thought out the site has been.”
Chris Burns, treasurer at the West Rainton & Leamside Village Partnership, adds: “The presentation of the site is excellent, and as we’ve watched it evolve through the year, it feels like no expense has been spared in creating a really professional design.
“The Banks team’s approach to working with our community has been exceptional from the off. The members of the site team and the wider project team have always been very approachable and their willingness to listen to and answer our questions has set a new standard for how housebuilders have worked in our village.”
The first property reservations at Cathedral Meadows, which will include a new play area, new landscaped areas and new areas of public open space, have already been taken by local homebuyers, with the first occupants set to be moving into their new homes in 2025.
Places are now available for the ticketed Saturday event, while the show homes will be open to all visitors at any time between 10am and 5pm on Sunday 15th December.
They will then remain open every day between 10am and 5pm up to Christmas Eve before reopening on Friday 27th December.
