For the tenth year in a row, the University of Sheffield has won the top prize for having the best student union in the Times’ Higher Education Student Experience Survey. This is a huge achievement and has us all wondering, what makes their student union so good?

We took a look at what they have to offer.

Food and Drink

According to Sheffield’s Student Union website, there are plenty of places to eat and drink on offer. This includes their legendary bar, Bar One, which hosts lots of quiz nights and a is great place for students to come together to have a drink. Coffee lovers are also catered for at this union thanks to Coffee Revolution which provides the students with the caffeine that they need to get those assignments done.

Another great thing about this union is that they cater for vegetarians, vegans and those who are gluten free. Gone are the days where vegetarians have only salad to choose from. The View Deli offers great food and treats for those who want something a bit different. If you do want a salad, however, you can check out the New Leaf salad bar.

Student Accommodation

If you’re a student at Sheffield or someone who is planning on going after hearing all about their great student union – make sure you find somewhere great to live. We’ve heard a lot about the Collegiate AC Student Accommodation and it seems like they are one of the top contenders for student accommodation Sheffield.

Collegiate not only offer great rooms and social areas but they have private gyms, games areas, study rooms and an on-site cinema. You’ll find a room from £145 per week but this includes everything such as your bills and internet, so you don’t need to worry about that. Who wouldn’t want a BBQ area or an on-site cinema at their student accommodation? It’s certainly an upgrade from others available!

Events at Foundry

Nightlife is big at Sheffield and the events never stop at their very own venue, Foundry. They have regular gigs as well as club nights like Pop Tarts which features retro music in lots of different rooms. The fun doesn’t stop here and its clear to see why the students think it is so great. How do they have time to study?

Get Involved

No matter what you’re into, this student union has something for you. They have more than 300 societies and clubs for you to join from anime to the book club or the barbershop society. Sport is also huge at Sheffield with lots of sports on offer from rugby to cheerleading.

Our Verdict

Overall, we think that Sheffield sounds like a great place to go to university and understand why students keep voting it to the top of the leaderboard. Student satisfaction is key, and they definitely know what they are doing when it comes to their union!
