They think it’s all over. …But still more Christmas donations come
Hundreds of young footballers from the Pin Point Recruitment Junior Football League have teamed up to donate to The People’s Kitchen.
Ian Coates, Secretary of the league, hand delivered a van full of new warm clothes, sleeping bags, flasks, selection boxes and masses of new sports clothing which had been donated by sports retailers as well as tins of food, drinks and blankets donated by the young footballers themselves. The league provides support for around 1000 teams with 15,000 players taking part aged from six year old to 18 year old from all across the North East.
“We try to put something back into the community and this year we asked everyone to donate a couple of cans of food or a flask and it blossomed from there,” said Ian.
“One guy brought in 144 bottles of sports drinks and local sports stores have donated rucksacks, about 50 tracksuits and the league sponsors Pin Point Recruitment provided brand new sleeping bags . We are very proud of the way that the league has rallied around for this very good cause. ”
The People’s Kitchen has been feeding the homeless and vulnerable of Newcastle for over 30 years, six days a week and it is run entirely by volunteers, No government funding is received and no one is paid for their work.
Trustee Peter Samuel was delighted with the generous donation.
“It never fails to amaze me how organisations like the Pin Point Junior Football League can gather so many vital supplies and equipment in such a short time. We are very grateful as are our friends on the streets of Newcastle who will benefit from this kind donation.”
