Screen Shot 2016-03-23 at 20.56.43A Stanley care home resident was given a reception ‘fit for a Queen’ as she celebrated her 100th birthday at a special party organised by staff at Westerleigh Residential Home.

Frances Murphy celebrated the milestone with family, including her son, Huey, and daughter-in-law, Pam, friends and fellow residents at the event, which included live entertainment.

She was presented with her official card from the Queen, acknowledging the special occasion, and was treated to flowers, gifts and a cake.

Frances, who has lived her entire life in Craghead, has been a resident at Westerleigh Residential Home since early March, after previously visiting the home for respite care. She previously worked as a secretary for the Darby & Joan club.

Mrs Murphy has two grandchildren, Marie and Angela, as well as two great grandchildren, Adam and Marcus.

Despite being registered blind, Frances is still an active resident at the home and is very sociable as she regularly takes part in activities, including bingo, with the help of staff.

Paula Stobart, home manager at Westerleigh Residential Home, said: “Frances is a lovely lady and she was given a fitting celebration in recognition of this magnificent achievement. She is still a very active person at the home, despite being registered blind, and is very popular amongst our staff and residents. Everyone at the home was delighted when Frances joined us permanently after meeting her during her time on respite care.

“We always celebrate our residents’ significant milestones and it was nice to see everyone join in the festivities for Frances’ 100th to mark the special occasion. I would like to wish Frances all the very best.”

Westerleigh Residential Home, which is operated by Akari Care, provides residential care for up to 55 elderly residents.
