Festival-goers basked in blazing sunshine before braving a spectacular thunderstorm to see some of Britain’s biggest names perform at one of the North East’s premier live music events.
Hardwick Live 2015, headlined by legendary Manchester band, James, returned to Hardwick Hall, Sedgefield on Saturday (August 22), with around 10,000 visitors enduring monsoon-like weather conditions to enjoy a day of hit anthems and family-focussed entertainment.
Torrential rain failed to dampen the spirits of the sell-out audience as they enjoyed Main Stage appearances by very special guests Razorlight, big name acts, including 10cc, Embrace and The Beat and headliners James, whose front man Tim Booth defied thunder and lightning to leave the protection of the stage and go crowd surfing.
Audience member, Samantha Bates, 36, from Walsall, said, “I just couldn’t believe it. One minute I’m grinning all over my face, watching James and singing along. The next minute, I’m passing Tim Booth over my head. It was magical.”
For the first time in its history, Hardwick Live 2015, also featured a Discovery Stage, headlined by Brit-pop icons Cast.
This particular stage, designed to showcase ‘tomorrow’s stars today,’ welcomed performances by some of the greatest new and emerging artists from across the UK, including North East favourites Smoove and Turrell.
Cast’s lead singer, John Power, said: “We wanted to come here and champion all the great new music that this festival is bringing to you. Yes we normally play main stage but we wanted to make an exception and support some of the best new music around.”
There was also a dome, hosting comedy performances during the day and DJ sets, headlined by acclaimed producer Joey Negro, into the night.
Younger members of the capacity crowd were treated to a host of free activities in a designated Family Zone, while visitors of all ages were also able to enjoy a selection of funfair rides.
A variety of specialist drink areas were available for the duration of Hardwick Live 2015, including the Champagne Marquee, Gin Palace and Real Ale Tent, as well as food outlets offering everything from Mexican to traditional fish and chips.
John Adamson, Director of Ramside Estates, which organised the event, said: “This was the biggest and best event in Hardwick Live’s three year history and it was fantastic to see so many festival-goers and families enjoying the day.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the organisations who supported us in this year’s event and to the acts who kept the crowds on their feet, despite the changing weather conditions.”
