Hundreds of Ryedale residents who faced being made homeless are already benefitting from the award winning efforts of Housing Services team at Ryedale District Council.
In the past two years 574 households have been prevented from facing homelessness – thanks to the efforts of the team.
And the efforts of the Housing Services Team have been recognised nationally by earning a top award this week.
Ryedale District Council is just one of 28 in the UK to have earned the first stage of the Gold Standard Challenge Programme for its efforts to tackle homelessness and ensure the best customer care for residents.
Officers from the Ryedale District Council Local Homelessness Prevention Services have been recognised as achieving an excellent standard in performance, as part of the government’s Gold Standard Challenge programme.
The Gold Standard Challenge Programme- funded through the government – is designed to ensure the best customer service and improve housing options services across the country.
The award has been earned by Ryedale District Council for ” having excellent multi-agency plans for how homelessness prevention is dealt with. “
Janet Waggott, the Council’s Chief Executive said ” Homelessness can have a dramatic effect on households and early intervention is the key- one of the top priorities for this service.
Despite the economic challenges over recent years, Ryedale’s innovative and dedicated approach in preventing homelessness has seen significant results”.
Kim Robertshaw the Council’s Housing Services Manager said “This is a great achievement for the team and the many agencies that have assisted in gaining this accolade.
“At a time of limited resources the officers have worked really hard to meet this challenge. Out of 326 Local Authorities we are proud to be in the top 28.
“The team hopes to achieve the Gold Standard by completing a further nine challenges”.
