Manchester Giants’ captain and MVP Callum Jones has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

Jones, 31, has been with the Giants since the club returned to the BBL back in 2012 and was a star performer last season, earning him a place in the Molten BBL All-Star British Team of the Year.

“I’m really happy to have signed,” said Jones.

“This is a club I’ve been with for five seasons now and it’s my home club.

“Obviously there’s a lot of work to be done to improve on last season, but Manchester is my home and I’m happy to be re-signed here.

“It was nice to get recognition, though I thought I had a better year the season before, but I’d have traded those accolades for a few more wins.

“I think we need to improve in certain key positions, we need to improve our personnel, but I think as a team, we’ve got to stay focused for the entire game. We had spells where we were good, but we’ve got to be much more consistent.”

Jones has had a month off and took the chance to visit his brother and former BBL star James in Canada, whose partner Laura has recently given birth to twins.

New Giants’ coach Danny Byrne will be piecing his team together in the coming weeks ahead of pre-season starting, and he’s already made it clear he’ll be expecting more from Jones – especially from outside the line.

Jones added: “I made one last season and it was the talk of the town for that game! People have a bit of a fetish about me shooting threes! We’ll see. If you get a season ticket, then you’ll see!”
