Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Free Ticket to Ride at Blyth Music Festival

Screen Shot 2015-06-23 at 13.26.10On Saturday June 27th in South East Northumberland, the word of the day is ‘free’. There will be free world-class pop-rock music, free street theatre and a regular free ‘park and ride’ service from the town centre to the Blyth seafront.

All of this is happening in association with one of the summer’s most exciting ‘free’ music festivals, as for one-day only Blyth seafront will be transformed for Northumberland Live 2015.

Headlining the event will be chart-topping acts from yester year including ‘Toploader’ (“Dancing in the Moonlight”) and 80s legends ‘Doctor and the Medics’ (“Spirit in the Sky”).

Another important aspect about Northumberland Live is the opportunity for local singers and bands to showcase their talent to gathered crowds. Northumberland Live will be presenting: kosoti (Newcastle); The Caffreys (Tyneside); Tony Bengtsson Band (South Shields); Shaw:Clark Project (Blyth); Muddy Line (Newcastle/Northumberland); Rose Parade (South Shields); Driven Serious (North East England); and Melissa Rose (Blyth).

There will be street theatre performances by stilt acrobats ‘Team Power Stilts’ and ‘Bad Apples North East’ who were created to bring entertainment, education, employment and opportunity to young people in the North East.

Northumberland Live 2015 is supported by Northumberland County Council and Active Northumberland.

The free “Park and Ride” bus shuttle is being kindly provided by Phoenix Taxis. The regular coach pick up points will be from outside Blyth Library and on Broadway Circle. All of the coaches will drop eager festival goers off at the Blyth Beach bus stop.

People can park their vehicles at the Ranch Links car park, the Quayside, Fountain Head, Freehold Street and Renwick Road.

Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture at Northumberland County Council, Val Tyler said: “It’s really refreshing to see so many young people getting involved in Northumberland Live. The event lends itself to grassroots community participation and local groups are benefiting from taking part or being associated with the festival.

“The South East Northumberland coastline is a beautiful setting for this free festival that promises to have something for everyone to enjoy. It’s going to be a great day out for all the family with entertainment ranging from music to street theatre; and it also shows how the music industry holds the event in high regards with acts like Toploader being attracted to the line-up.”

Alex Hurst, Managing Director of Blyth-based, Phoenix Taxis, said: “It is a pleasure to sponsor and be part of Northumberland Live. It is a wonderful opportunity to support such a fantastic music event here in Blyth that the whole community can enjoy. Our park and ride service will run for the whole day making it easy for festival-goers to get around.”

Northumberland Live 2015 is also sponsored by Phoenix Taxis, who are providing the free park and ride service, and Coastline Fish and Chip Restaurant.

Northumberland Live 2015’s media partner for this year’s free festival is BBC Newcastle 95.4FM / Digital.

The fun kicks off at 11am on Saturday 27 June and runs through until 9pm. For further information and regular updates about Northumberland Live please visit www.northumberlandlive.org
