Responding to the announcement by Redcar & Cleveland Labour Group on the Council Cabinet for the coming year, Labour MP for Redcar Anna Turley said:

“Redcar & Cleveland Council under the leadership of Sue Jeffrey and her Cabinet have done a really good job in the first year of this council term, defending our community despite the brutal cuts and terrible loss of SSI.

Sue in particular has played a key role in the SSI Taskforce, helping to fight for every penny from government and ensure it goes to help support those affected back into work. She also has a vital role in chairing the South Tees Shadow Development Corporation which will oversee the future use of the sight, and has the respect of other local authority leaders, and regional and national business leaders.

I am pleased that Sue and her team will continue to lead us through this critical time as we try to regenerate our economy and manage further cuts in funding from central government.

The appointment of Cllr Alec Brown to the Cabinet is also very welcome. He brings a great deal of experience and insight to the environment portfolio and has a fantastic record, working with Friends of Redcar and other groups, to improving our community.

I look forward to continuing to work closely with the council to overcome our challenges and drive our area forward.”
