BEACONS across Stockton-on-Tees will be lit to mark The Queen’s official 90th birthday next week.
On Thursday, 21 April, The Queen’s official birthday, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council will join borough’s, villages, towns and cities across the UK as they mark the special event by lighting a beacon.
Residents, community groups and visitors are invited to come along to Stockton High Street from 7.30pm to take part in the celebration. At 8.15pm the Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees Councillor Ken Dixon will preside over a short ceremony which will culminate in the lighting of the beacon at 8.30pm. This will be followed by a performance from The Cockerton Prize Silver Band.
There are also other events being organised by community groups across the Borough, including a beacon lighting event organised by Billingham Town Council on Thursday 21 April between 6pm and 8pm at John Whitehead Park. The beacon will be lit at 7.30pm.
Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees, Councillor Ken Dixon, said: “Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is proud to be taking part in the tradition of celebrating special Royal occasions by lighting a beacon. We are honoured to celebrate the Monarch’s landmark birthday and recognise the extraordinary service Her Majesty has given the country for more than six decades. We encourage residents of all ages and backgrounds to head to the High Street on 21 April to take part in this special event.”
On 21 April His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales will invite Her Majesty The Queen to light the Principal Beacon, the first of more than 1,000 beacons expected to be lit that evening.
