The Botanist in Monument Mall has made an exciting addition to its aptly-named The New World Gin List – after its group The New World Trading Company – which features some of the UK’s finest examples, all local to each of the sites that discovered them.

Northern Dry Gin is the product of independent Sunderland distiller Poetic License, which creates high quality gin and vodka using traditional production methods dating back to the 1800’s.

Inspired by the London dry style, it uses 13 ingredients including the likes of juniper, cardamom, pepper and citrus with undertones of lemon and eucalyptus. This warm, spicy flavour is paired with Persian dried limes, rose petals and perfumed notes for a fine balance.

Served with a grapefruit wedge, mint sprig and recommended premium tonic the exotic flavours complement aromatics plucked from North East soil in Poetic License’s botanical garden on the coast.

The Botanist Newcastle has now helped the seaside-based distillery to achieve listings nationwide across The New World Trading Company’s portfolio of The Botanist and The Trading House venues from Glasgow to London, as well as Manchester’s The Oast House and Liverpool’s The Smugglers Cove and recently-opened The Club House.

Paul Burns, The Botanist senior business development manager, said: “Poetic License was first suggested to us by a staff member, head bartender Jordan Fish, and since bringing in the Northern Dry edition it has become a hugely popular choice with customers and gin-enthusiasts alike.”

Poetic License was launched in autumn 2015 by entrepreneur and managing director of Tavistock Hospitality, Mark Hird, who has more than 25 years’ experience in the leisure and hospitality sector.

Mark said: “The Botanist brand is very in-keeping with ours – bold and conceptual – so this partnership has been the perfect fit for us and in turn, really beneficial.

“We’re now working with all of The New World Trading Company sites to nurture the relationship and offer staff training around our spirits and suggested serves, combining this with each venue’s distinctive style and customer knowledge.

“All in all, we’re really proud to be working with them and from this have gained some great exposure which has played a vital part in our growth story over the last year. We look forward to developing this partnership in the future.”
