NEWCASTLE venue The Botanist has given local good cause Cash for Kids a £3,934 boost thanks to its continuous fundraising efforts.

The donation will see children and young people benefit, helping the charity respond to the needs of communities in the North East.

Funds were collected by 25p from each children’s meal sold being donated, as well as a discretionary £1 contribution on diner’s bills during December added to the pot.

This charitable support helped The Botanist’s operator New World Trading Company (NWTC) raise over £100,000 for charity in 2017 across its portfolio of 20 unique venues.

Other beneficiaries included Barnardo’s, the UK’s leading children’s charity, and the Tim Bacon Foundation, which gives aid to charities in the fight against cancer.

For Barnardo’s, customers were able to get involved by indulging in special items on the menu. NWTC created a show stopping cocktail and sharing desert with £1 from each going straight to the charity.

As well as promoting charitable dishes, since the start of the partnership, team members from across the company took part in fundraising events in collaboration with Barnardo’s that included skydiving, a dragon boat race and an obstacle race called ‘Rough Runner’. Employees have also used their knowledge to teach children mindfulness, food skills, and even built greenhouses in local communities where children can grow fruit and vegetables. Over £40,000 was raised for the children’s charity thanks to the determination of NWTC teams.

For the Tim Bacon Foundation, £18,000 was raised through events and donations, and throughout the country, NWTC raised £53,000 for local children’s charities and hospices, including Cash for Kids.

Katie Longbottom, human resources project manager at NWTC said: “We pride ourselves on having a dedicated team so it’s great to see them engage with our chosen charities. We’re excited for what this year will bring and can’t wait to see our team work together to give back to local and national charities.”
