The Materials Processing Institute has strengthened its ties with international academic partners to support innovation and technological advancements, after welcoming delegates from across 20 Chinese universities.

In association with CURDS (Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies), an internationally-renowned research centre based at Newcastle University, the Institute welcomed representatives from universities located in the Central China Province of Henan to tour its campus and facilities.

The Institute delivered a masterclass on its research capabilities through tours of its facilities and laboratories, including its Process Modelling, Metallography, Mould Powder and Coal and Coke laboratories.

CURDS, which is based at the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology at Newcastle University, aims to produce academic research in urban and regional change, development and policy.

The visit formed part of a week-long course for the delegation, who visited a number of leading businesses and centres of knowledge in the region.

Chris McDonald, CEO of the Materials Processing Institute, said: “The visit by the delegation from the Henan Province highlights the vast research capabilities the North East has to offer. We are committed to supporting industry with our research into the development of products and materials, and I am hoping that this collaborative visit with CURDS will support its work too.

“We were delighted to be recognised and included in the visit, which has further strengthened our relationship with international partners and leading educational institutions.”
