Folkworks: RURA

Thursday 14 June, 8pm, Sage Two

RURA are a multi award-winning act, and one of Scotland’s most sought-after folk-based bands.

With two heralded albums, a third due for release this month, and extensive international touring, RURA continually affirm their position as one of Scotland’s most powerful groups. Their exquisitely rugged yet refined blend of fiddle, Highland pipes, flute, bodhran and guitar has won a devoted following in many corners of the globe, amongst audiences and critics alike.

The group’s fire first ignited in 2010, as award-winners at Glasgow’s world-renowned Celtic Connections festival, where they have now appeared on a remarkable seven occasions – taking just one year off from their formative award win. Since then, Jack Smedley, Steven Blake, David Foley and Adam Brown’s powerful, entrancing instrumentals have been a main stage highlight of many of the world’s leading folk festivals – including Cambridge, Tønder, Winnipeg, Vancouver and HebCelt, amongst countless others across more than 20 countries.

Their media profile is similarly huge, with numerous national radio and television appearances, including BBC One’s Hogmanay Live, broadcast live to the world over New Year 2016/2017 from Glasgow’s Old Fruitmarket.

Frankly Sinatra

Thursday 14 June, 7.30pm, Sage One

Frankly the best thing since Sinatra Direct from Las Vegas, the iconic music of Frank Sinatra is brought to life once again his way. Featuring the swing, the swagger and the velvet vocals of Frank Sinatra in concert, enjoy a not-to-be-missed evening with world-renowned vocalist Stephen Triffitt.

Widely regarded as the master of his craft, Triffitt starred as Frank for three seasons in Las Vegas. He held the role of Ol’ Blue Eyes in the original West End production of The Rat Pack Live. He has sold out the London Palladium twice, and Royal Festival Hall with his own solo spectacular.

Fly Me to the Moon, Mack the Knife, My Way, That’s Life, My Kind of Town, All the Way and Luck Be a Lady delight spellbound audiences.

Backed by the fantastic sound of big band swing, Triffitt is frankly the best thing since Sinatra himself.
