THE MD of a Northumberland-based company is hoping to make a splash this weekend – and raise money to help St Oswald’s Hospice with a special project.
Laura Holliday is the boss of Luxe Domes, which makes luxury wooden framed domes which are either sold or rented out for major events and experiences across the country.
And now Laura will be taking part in the Arla Great North Swim this weekend at Lake Windermere, where she is hoping to raise a massive £10,000 to supply the hospice with a dome – plus all the furnishings.
“I was approached by the hospice because they were interested in buying a dome so that it could be used for patients and their families on the Adult Inpatient Unit to enjoy the hospice’s beautiful gardens in comfort in all weathers,” she said.
“I lost my best friend to cancer a few years and I’ve had other family members who have gone into a hospice at some point and were so well looked after that I really wanted to do something to help.
“Luxe Domes is not making anything out of this, we have asked our joiner to produce a dome for us at the lowest cost possible so we can supply it to St Oswald’s.”
Laura will be swimming a mile across the lake, which she last did five years ago.
“I like swimming but I haven’t done any training this time because this has only came together a few weeks ago,” she admitted.
“But I know I can do this because it’s so important to support this great cause.”

The domes are a familiar sight, having been used at Moosenwirt Christmas pop-up bar at Newcastle and at everything from the Battersea Power Station launch to VIP areas at major festivals.
