Darlington Libraries is gearing up for a special series of selfies sessions to mark #LovetoRead weekend (5-6 November).
The #LovetoRead selfie sessions are part of the Society of Chief Librarians support for the BBC’s ongoing Get Reading campaign which aims to promote and encourage reading for pleasure. During the weekend audiences and library users will be asked to share their reading recommendations via selfies posted on Twitter and Facebook.
Darlington Libraries will be hosting a series of selfie-taking fun days from Thursday 3 November until Saturday 5 November. Staff will be inviting customers to hold up a board recommending their favourite book, pick a face that shows how it makes them feel, take a selfie ad share it on social media using the hashtags #Libraries #LovetoRead.
Library users are also being encouraged to vote in an online poll to choose the nation’s favourite read and, if they wish, say why it’s the best book ever. The poll, which is now open and runs until 30 November, can be found at http://goscl.com/love-to-read-poll/
Customers who are less comfortable with computers, can leave their recommendations at the book swap displays at Crown Street and Cockerton Libraries.
Councillor Nick Wallis, Darlington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and the Environment, said:
“We hosted a Shakespeare Selfie Saturday back in April which proved very popular and we’re hoping people of all ages will join in the fun for #LovetoRead weekend.
“Reading isn’t just something we do to get information and learn new things, it opens up whole new worlds which the reader can enjoy, and we’re thrilled to be able to support #LovetoRead which celebrates reading for pleasure.”
