A SPECIAL show took place at a Chester-le-Street care home as part of LGBT History Month.

Residents, staff and visitors at Pelton Grange Care Home, on Front Street, were treated to a performance from drag queen Miss Dixie Swallows.

Hits from ABBA, Tina Turner, Cilla Black and more had the audience singing and dancing along.

Tina Dickson, daughter of resident Lillian Maxwell, said: “It was an absolutely brilliant day and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. I haven’t seen my mam laugh so much.”

Dixie, who has performed at the home several times before, said: “I love to come here. It is great to see people respond to me the way they do.”

Christopher Hogan-Hind, home manager at Pelton Grange Care Home, said: “We asked Miss Dixie Swallows to perform as part of awareness activities during LGBT History Month.

“We believe it’s vital to break down stereotypes and Dixie does that with laughter and music, which the residents find hugely entertaining.

“It was great to see everyone, including residents and their families, responding so positively and having a great time.”
