Dunston Boxing Club expands into new premises

GROWING community boxing club has moved into new premises in Gateshead’s Team Valley.

Dunston Boxing Club has relocated to a 6,000 sq ft site on Third Avenue road in the popular Team Valley trading estate. The new site sees the club double its training space and features brand-new changing areas and an on-site gym, as well as a new boxing ring and the latest sparring equipment.

The club, which holds boxing and keep fit sessions for those aged 9+, four times a week, has been running for the past ten years from its previous site in Brama Teams industrial estate.

Ernie Blenkiron, coach and secretary of Dunston Boxing Club said, ‘‘Our existing premises at Brama Teams industrial estate was a great base for us to start and grow our club, however, for the past couple of years we have been struggling with the limited size of the space and the increasing rent.

“We started the search for new premises in January 2019 but were struggling to find somewhere that had the space we needed and was affordable. That is when we approached UK Land Estates to see if they could help.”

Dunston Boxing Club’s new space, was donated by UK Land Estates the region’s largest commercial property investment and development company, as part of the organisation’s commitment to supporting its local community projects.

Ernie continued, “We are so thankful to UK Land Estates in helping us obtain our dream training space. The donation has allowed us to spend our money on training our volunteer coaches in first aid, purchasing two boxing rings and providing a lot more bags and gym equipment.

“We’ve also been able to increase the number of training sessions we hold and provide much better-quality training sessions for our members.”

“The well-connected location of the Team Valley has also seen us grow our customer base, with members travelling across the Newcastle and Gateshead area. All of this means that we are on course to succeed and produce more champions.”

David Gibbs, commercial director at UK Land Estates said, “As a growing local business, we were more than happy to help the dedicated trainers at Dunston Boxing Club find a suitable space that would help them achieve their ambitious growth targets.

“We’re thrilled to see the positive difference that this property has made to the club and its members and can’t wait to see the club continue to go from strength to strength”
