Flame Heating Group is hoping to smash its fundraising record after announcing Newcastle-based Fighting All Cancers…Together (FACT) as the company’s chosen charity of 2018.

The North East-headquartered Heating & Plumbing merchant has raised in excess of £16,500 over the last two years in aid of chosen charities and causes in the region.

Flame is hoping to exceed the £14,000 it raised over the course of 2017, in aid of South Shields man, Paul George, who suffers from relapse and remitting MS.

Mr George was diagnosed with the condition at the age of 30 and is fundraising to access life-changing treatment to halt its progression.

Established in 2008, FACT supports people living with cancer and their families through a range of services and operates a number of charity shops across the region. It has relationships with health professionals, support groups and services, as well as wider voluntary organisations that help to deliver a range of educational and awareness programmes in the North East.

Joanne Smith, Founder and Chair of the Trustees at FACT, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have the support of Flame Heating Group in 2018 – our 10th Birthday year! As a local charity, we rely very much on the support of local people and businesses to provide our much needed services. All of the funds raised will directly help people affected by cancer in our local communities.”

John Savage, Managing Director of Flame Heating Group, said: “It is important to give back to communities and worthy causes, and cancer is an illness that impacts on many people’s lives. FACT does fantastic work across the region to support those living with cancer, their families and also in helping to educate people and raise awareness.

“We are hoping to beat our fundraising record from last year, and it was a great feeling to support Paul, who has battled MS with courage and dignity. Our charity work has grown considerably over the past few years and we are always looking to support good causes by raising crucial funds.”

As part of its 2018 fundraising for FACT, Flame will host its annual racenight at Newcastle Racecourse on 21stSeptember, with all proceeds on the night going to the charity. For further information about the racenight, visit: https://www.newcastle-racecourse.co.uk/whats-on/21-september-2018
