The Spa at Ramside at County Durham’s Ramside Hall Hotel will turn one on August 15 and has a busy month of events planned to mark the occasion.
Members are being invited to celebrate the anniversary as well as Rio 2016 and all things Olympic with the Ramside to Rio challenge.
And if that wasn’t enough, the birthday celebrations will continue with the chance to meet the inspirational Ben Hooper – who is preparing to become the first person to swim continent to continent across the Atlantic – at an exclusive Q&A event on August 19 which will be open to the general public as well as members.
The idea behind Ramside to Rio is to get spa members to cover the 5902 miles from Ramside Hall to Rio over the course of the Olympic Games, which run from August 5-21.
This can be done by rowing, running, cycling, climbing or spinning in the gym, with gold, silver and bronze medals on offer for those who show the best effort.
As a further bonus and to help inspire members, Middlesbrough long-distance runner Matty Hynes is also being lined-up to present a seminar on technique, gait analysis and nutrition.
For those who prefer to get in the swim, Ben Hooper will be returning to the spa from August 19-21. Last month members were invited to swim a mile and donate to the challenge, and he is now offering specialist swimming coaching sessions for members over the weekend.
Aimed at beginners, improvers and those looking to move into open water, there will be exclusive one-to-one sessions on August 19 and 21 costing £35 each as well as group coaching for up to five people priced at £150 per group on August 20.
He will also host a question and answer session at the spa at 7.30pm on Friday August 19. This unique event is open to the public but must be booked in advance. Tickets are available from the spa reception priced at £5, all of which will go to Maggie’s which has a centre at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital offering support for people with cancer, their family and friends.
To mark the big day on August 15, the fitness team will be offering a fun and light-hearted group Birthday Boogie class for its members from 1.30-2.30pm. Anyone taking part will get a post-class treat of a slice of birthday cake as well as a party bag filled with spa goodies to take away.
Spa director Jill Russell said the first year has flown over. “It’s really hard to believe that we are about to celebrate our first birthday. It has been a fabulous year, and our luxury spa continues to go from strength to strength.
“We have a host of events and entertainment lined-up for August to coincide with the Olympic Games and hope our members will turn up in force to join in our quest to cover the 5902 miles to Rio.
“We are looking forward to marking the day with our Birthday Boogie and look forward to sharing a slice of birthday cake with everyone who comes along to join the event.”
