Screen Shot 2015-04-29 at 13.11.13A popular North East bar is inviting guests to indulge in some tasty tipples at an event inspired by a trend from Victorian London.

Tiger Hornsby, on Newcastle’s Quayside, will be opening its doors from 5pm every Thursday for a new event: The Great Hornsby Gin Palace.

The luxury cocktail bar will be giving guests the chance to sample specially-designed drinks, made using a selection of the finest world, craft and regional gins.

As part of The Great Hornsby Gin Palace, the venue will be serving up a variety of its ‘Perfect Serve’ G & Ts, including Burleigh’s Gin with Fevertree Tonic and orange, Durham Gin with Fentiman’s Tonic, lemon and black pepper and Caorunn with Fentiman’s Tonic and raspberries.

The venue will also be offering a range of unique gin cocktails, created by its experienced team, including The Monkey Gland: a gin, freshly squeezed orange juice and grenadine concotion, served in an Absinthe-rinsed Martini glass, and the Aviation, made with Plymouth Gin, lemon juice, maraschino and violet liqueur.

There will also be the chance to try Tiger Hornsby’s twist on classic gin cocktails, such as the popular Gin Daisy, the Sloe Gin Fizz and The Bee’s Knees.

As part of the Gin Palace evenings, Tiger Hornsby will also be offering guests a selection of bespoke pairings, which combine different brands of gin with unusual flavours. These will include Gordon’s with cucumber, chilli and coriander, Bathtub with dill and cherry tomato and Hoxton with sage and pineapple among others.

“The Great Hornsby Gin Palace will give gin lovers and gin virgins alike the chance to try a whole host of wonderful drinks,” said Rachael Frame, owner of Tiger Hornsby.

“As a team we have pulled together a really comprehensive menu of cocktails and recommended combinations, so there’s something to suit everyone’s tastes.”

“In the past few years the gin market has really exploded.  Now there is an increasing variety of flavours and combinations to choose from, which can be overwhelming, so we’re offering people a fun opportunity to try something new without having to spend a fortune.”

Tiger Hornsby is open on Thursdays from 5pm to 2am, on Fridays and Saturdays, from 3pm to 3am and on Sundays from3pm until 12am. Admission is free.
