Investment in the local workforce by the repairs and improvements division of a Durham housing association has paid off.
Group Property Services (GPS), a branch of County Durham Housing Group, has taken five workers into full-time employment.
Joiners Scott Graham, Michael Howard and Alex Reynolds were originally agency employees; and Gas Engineers Gary Cooper and David Johnson started as work experience placements, and over the last three years have not only become fully qualified but have secured permanent posts.
Gary said: “It’s been a fantastic opportunity for all of us, not only to gain the experience we have needed, but also to now have the security of full-time work.”
The GPS is responsible for the repairs and maintenance, home improvements and gas services to more than 10,000 properties in the city centre and west of the county.
Steven Brown, Group Property Services Manager, said: “We believe strongly in investing in our workforce and giving local people the opportunity to help us make a real difference to the homes and lives of our tenants.”
The GPS has a 120-strong team and supports two of County Durham Housing Group’s local landlords – Dale & Valley Homes and Durham City Homes.
Dale & Valley Homes customers can call 01388 770 927 to arrange their annual gas service; and Durham City Homes tenants 0800 068 0013 to report a repair.
