Interactive Micro-Shakespeare experience invites Darlington to get hands-on with theatre

A unique and creative Shakespeare experience is set to engage the people of Darlington, when it arrives in town from the 23rd to the 28th October.

Micro-Shakespeare, is a collaborative interactive installation, casting the audience as a performer or viewer in an intimate, eight-minute performance.

Members of the public will be welcomed to join one of five pop-up, micro theatres, put on some headphones and follow the instructions to transform into amazing puppeteers.

Those who don’t wish to perform are invited to grab some popcorn, pull up a seat and enjoy up to five mini-Shakespeare classics, including condensed versions of Hamlet, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Tempest.

“This is a great and fun opportunity to grab some Shakespeare on your lunch break or in between shopping in Town. The chance to sample an 8-minute Shakespeare classic, or all five if you have the time, will be a really unique experience for audiences of all ages”says Laura Case, development director for Theatre Hullabaloo.

“We want to give people an opportunity in Darlington to interact with a variety of cultural activities, especially as we get ready to open our new home, The Hullabaloo in December. We’re delighted to open a venue that will allow the town to experience exciting theatre in new ways.”

Micro-Shakespeare, presented by Spanish company Laitrum Teatre and originally commissioned by the National Theatre, will be entertaining Darlington at the Crown Street Library from 23rd to the 25th October and the Cornmill Shopping Centre from 26th to the 28th October, as part of the TakeOff Festival.
