RAINBOW decorations, cakes and colourful clothing marked LGBT Pride Month at a Middlesbrough care home.

Residents and staff at Briarwood Care Home, on Normanby Road, Eston, celebrated the national awareness month with a Pride Inside party.

Throughout a week, residents have been making rainbow decorations ahead of the party, organised by deputy manager Emma Green and the team at the home.

A buffet, afternoon tea and rainbow cakes made for the occasion by the home’s cook Lisa Harland were followed by Pride Bingo, where residents could win rainbow coloured prizes.

Rainbow coloured clothing was worn by all those who took part, including hats and scarves, and residents waved rainbow flags.

Resident Pat Hopwood said: “It’s lovely to be making things like rainbows. I like the bright colours and at the party it was fun to sing along to the songs.”

Fellow resident Christine Stanley said: “Any excuse for a party.”

Emma Green, deputy manager at Briarwood Care Home, said: “The staff wanted to raise awareness and get involved with the Pride Inside parties around the country.

“Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the party and the cakes made by our cook Lisa were delicious.”
