North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

TEESSIDE shoppers can grab their buckets and spades and pull up a deckchair when the seaside comes to a North East town.

Stockton-by-the-Sea is latest initiative by the town’s Business Improvement District (BID) and will bring a touch of all things nautical to the area.

High Street will play host to the pop-up beach for three weekends starting on 12 August, and each week there will be a different theme offering fun and entertainment for all of the family.

On August 12 and 13 the sights and sounds of the Caribbean will bring a touch of sunshine to the town centre.

The Pantasy Steel Band will be on hand to provide music from 11am on both days as a host of Caribbean characters will be inviting youngsters to join free craft workshops and get their own glitter tattoos.

The good old British seaside will be celebrated a week later as the beach plays host to old fashioned fun including a memory man show, seaside crafts and music from the Swing into Summer band.

Finally, on Saturday and Sunday 26 and 27 August, a bunch of pirates will dock in the town for two days of fun. A Peter Pan show, craft workshops and book readings will keep everyone out of trouble with special guests set to drop in throughout the weekend.

BID manager Karen Hindhaugh is confident the town’s first ever pop-up beach will be a big success.

“In recent years we have seen other towns and cities across the country hosting similar initiatives, and we believe it was high time Stockton had its own beach,” she said.

“We’ve put together three packed weekends of themed entertainment to celebrate everything we love about the seaside. From the traditional British holiday to the sunny Caribbean, we are bringing a little bit of it all to Stockton.

“We hope this event encourages more families to come into the town centre and enjoy everything we have to offer here. We are all looking forward to three weekends of seaside fun.”
