BeanDip-5Fundraising can be a messy business – but staff at a Tyneside care home decided to muck in for a good cause.

Beans means extra cash when staff at Roseway House, Jarrow, decided to take the Bean Dip Challenge to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and their own residents’ fund.

Sarah Wallace and Judith Hemmingfield showed what great sports they are by jumping into fancy dress and then into a paddle pool full of beans, only to have more beans poured over them while residents and other staff members looked on. Their efforts raised around £200.

Judith, the events coordinator at Roseway House, said: “The day was good fun. The residents really enjoyed the special coffee morning, the get together and witnessing me and our kitchen assistant Sarah getting covered in beans.

“It wasn’t the most pleasant thing as the beans were very cold and sticky, but I knew it was for a good cause.”
The money raised will go to Macmillan Cancer Support and the residents’ fund that is used for residents’ hobbies and activities, such as day trips and entertainers visiting the home.

Judith added: “Fighting cancer is extremely important to so many people today. Many residents and staff’s families have been touched by it. That is why it was so significant for us to show support for Macmillan and organise this fundraiser.”

Roseway House is owned by care home group Executive Care, which operates 27 homes across the country.
Chief executive David Harrison said: “We are very proud of our care homes that show independent initiative to raise funds and participate in different charitable activities.

“I believe that it proves that our staff genuinely care about our residents and other vulnerable people out there.”
Roseway House currently has 39 residents and specialises in residential, nursing and memory care.
