Manchester Giants have signed former Sheffield guard Samuel Toluwase ahead of this Sunday’s game against London Lions.

The 31-year-old played in the Sharks’ BBL Play-Off Final triumph over Leicester in May and is a welcome addition to Yorick Williams’ line-up.

“I’ve been good friends with Yorick for a while and I know what he expects and what he wants, “said Toluwase.

“He knew of my situation at Sheffield and we kept in contact. The club offered me a deal, I came to practice and saw that I could contribute, so I am pleased to have signed.

“I’ve watched a few games and I feel like I can bring the intensity and leadership to help out. I never give up on a second chance shot and I’m a defensive stopper.

“I know it’s been a tough start to the season for the Giants but I’ve been in these situations before, at Essex.

“You can come from nothing to something, it’s the team that works hardest and digs deep.

“We’ve got nothing to lose now. The other teams have something to lose as they will be expected to beat us. We’ve got to forget the past and push forward now.”

Meanwhile Giants’ CEO, John Dwan added, “It’s been a disappointing start to the season for everyone, but we are working hard behind the scenes to take the club forward.

“We’ve identified the need to add some new bodies and experience to the squad, and we look forward to seeing Samuel in action in Giants’ colours.”

The Nigerian-born Toluwase has previously played in Iceland, Italy and China – as well as landing at Surrey Scorchers last year.
